Competition form 2011

During this event it’s all about special gaits of the Icelandic horse.
There are special selections in which tölt and pass are central. During the day there are preliminary rounds (selection) and in the evening there are the finals.
A team of 5 international judges estimate and quantify the quality of the gaits.

The horse that shows the best: has the best stroke, the most proud Icelandic attitude and the best movements, will win its preliminary.

The horses will act in a place as it were a real arena. The contest is ridden on one long side of the ice rink with on the side a large grandstand on which the public will sit. The horses will perform right in front of the judges and public.

In some parts of the test the horses have to show a difference in speed, there for the long side is divided into 3 parts.
A ‘slow’ part, a part ‘to accelerate’ and again a ‘slow’ part.
These parts will be made visible on the ice by with color highlighting, so it is clearly shown were to show the difference, so that the combination can show the requested item.

Each part of the test is individually evaluated and quantified by each judge (with digits between 0 and 10, where 10 is excellent). The average of all component figures represents the average rate per judge. The highest and lowest final score of the judges drops out.
The average of the remaining three digits determines the outcome and ranking in the preliminary round.

In both the preliminaries and the finals, each combination (rider and horse) gets the chance to show twice the requested item.
All tests are held on the left hand and will be judged according to the guidelines of the jury FIPO.
These are international guidelines of our world organization FEIF.

In the preliminary round, all combinations come in different groups after the other on the ice.
In the final there is a ‘battle’ of the top 10 horses from the preliminary round, then they compete against each other on the ice for the best position.
During the finals the judges show their marks directly and open to the public.

For safety reasons canter is not allowed on the ice!!
